Coolsculpting

When stubborn fat just won't budge

What is "Coolsculpting"?

Coolsculpting quite literally, “freezes your fat”. Fat cells that are frozen eventually die, liquefy and are eliminated naturally from your body. The idea for Coolsculpting came about when it was noticed that children who ate a lot of popsicles had hollowing of their cheeks due to a loss of fat. This was followed by extensive research that showed that this principle could be applied to other areas of the body.

What are the benefits of Coolsculpting?

The benefits of Coolsculpting are:

  • Reduces fat
  • Can target problem areas like the stomach, love handles, thighs, and back rolls
  • No surgery
  • No downtime
  • Quick, can be done on your lunch break
  • Minimal discomfort

How much does a Coolsculpting procedure cost cost?

The cost of Coolsculpting is based on “cycles”. The number of cycles that you need vary from person to person. If someone has a lot of areas that they want to treat, or if their fatty areas are larger, they will need more cycles. Because Coolsculpting is not surgery, you will need more than one session. Expect each area to need to be treated at least twice, maybe more, depending on the type of result you are expecting.

When you come into our office for a consultation, you will receive a quote based on the number of cycles you will need.

How is a Coolsculpting procedure performed?

When you first arrive for your procedure, we will confirm what areas that you want treated. Next, your skin will be prepped and a special gel sheet will be put on. The applicator will then be applied and you will be placed in a comfortable position for your treatment.

After your treatment ends, the applicator is removed and the skin massaged. There is usually no aftercare needed. You may continue your day as planned!

How is the recovery process?

Your skin might be pink or red for a short time. Some people will have some bruising. There may also be numbness and swelling. These should all be temporary.

What are the common risks & complications?

Redness, bruising, swelling

This is expected and is temporary. Most of the time, this goes away by itself within a day or two.

Numbness

The area that was treated can be numb for a while. Eventually, however, the sensation should go back to normal.

Lack of desired effect

Since every body is different, some people respond better to Coolsculpting than others. Your target area may require more treatments than initially thought. The result from Coolsculpting will generally not be as dramatic an effect as liposuction. Realistic expectations are key. Coolsculpting does not replace liposuction. Some people would best be treated with liposuction or skin removal surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Q: How long before I see my results?
A: Most people can see their results within 4-8 weeks. In order to accurately assess your results, it is important that you do not gain any weight. Even a few pounds can erase the improvements that you are trying to achieve.

Q: How long will my Coolsculpting session take?
A: Each cycle itself will take a little over 30 minutes. If you are treating more than one area, you will be there longer. Also, you should factor in a little bit of preparation time before and after the treatment.

Q: How long will the results of Coolsculpting last?
A: The great thing about Coolscultping is that, like liposuction, the results are permanent. After every treatment, a certain number of fat cells will die and never come back. However, it is not a “free pass”. The fat cells that are still there can double and triple in size. So you can still collect fat in that area.

The best thing to do after Coolsculpting is to “protect your investment” by maintaining a stable or decreased weight after surgery.

Q: Is Coolsculpting painful?
A: Most people do not consider Coolsculpting to be painful. There can sometimes be some discomfort, especially at the beginning of the treatment. However, the majority of the treatment is usually comfortable. One benefit of the cool temperature is that it naturally makes the process less painful.

Q: Will I be able to go to work right after the procedure?
A: Usually yes, but every person is different.
